Longtime Michigan High School Teacher Charged Federally With Sex Trafficking a Minor After Cash App Flagged Payments

Oct. 15, 2026 · ClickOnDetroit (WDIV Local 4)

A high school teacher in Lapeer, Michigan, has been charged in federal court with sex trafficking of a minor and sexual exploitation of children, ClickOnDetroit reported. The outlet reported that the charges were filed in a criminal complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan earlier this month, and that the teacher had worked for the local public school district for roughly 25 years.

According to ClickOnDetroit's account of the complaint, investigators reviewed Cash App records showing roughly 21 payments to a 17-year-old girl totaling more than $800, and alleged that the money was exchanged for sexual activity and nude images. The outlet reported that the payment records were a central piece of the federal case against the teacher.

The allegations described in the reporting are accusations contained in a charging document and have not been proven in court. ClickOnDetroit reported that the case is being handled federally rather than in state court, and the teacher has not entered a plea to the charges as described in the outlet's coverage.
